We're Here to Listen
Breakthrough NI is a mental health service that offers a range of therapies to meet the need of the individual/group.
We have two therapists, Bea & John, each with their own unique approach. You are welcome to read their bios for further information.
Hello, I’m Bea.
I am a qualified counsellor & psychotherapist, with over 10 years’ experience in supporting mental health and well-being. There are many reasons why an individual seeks counselling, and I understand that it can feel like a big decision where you may feel nervous, uncertain or vulnerable. My first step is to offer you a safe, non-judgemental space where you will feel able to explore your own thoughts and feelings that may be leaving you feeling low, stuck, empty or overwhelmed.
Much of my experience has been working with people who have/are experiencing the impact of addiction, trauma and violence, such as domestic and/or sexual abuse. I am also experienced in working with the impact of nervous or anxious thinking/behaviours, bereavement/loss, stress, self-esteem & relationship issues. Understanding the impact that these experiences can have upon a person’s life has helped me develop a compassionate approach to my work. My client work has allowed me to witness the wisdom and strength that is held within each of us along the stages of our healing journey, and sparked my own curiosity around the role of courage and self-compassion in healing.
Please look around my website and feel welcome to contact me with any queries. My website is, like all of us, evolving and new elements will be added. over time.
As a qualified integrative therapist, I work with both person-centred and psychodynamic modalities through the lens of Internal Family Systems (IFS) & Sensorimotor Psychotherapy (SP). This allows us to customise our work together to explore and understand your needs. My focus is to support people to heal, energise and become aware of their inner strengths.
IFS & SP are evidence-based, trauma informed approaches in psychotherapy that allow us to process emotions/experiences from our past that are held within us and continue to affect our present. Both of these approaches honour the wisdom of the body and its role in relation to our well-being. I will work with you to understand how the thoughts, feelings and memories of your experiences connect to you in the present and how these ‘parts’ of your personality seek to protect you from deeper traumas or distress. Using mindful and compassionate curiosity to understand these connections, allows your inner strength (‘Self’, the inner power that we all possess) to shine through. It is within these growing moments of compassion and presence of ‘Self’ that healing truly begins.
“The point of therapy isn’t to get rid of anything, but to help it transform” (Richard Schwartz – Founder of IFS)

Hi, I’m John and I am a counsellor, somatic and IFS Practitioner. I believe that we each contain all of the resources necessary to heal our own wounds and introduce positivity, compassion and acceptance into our lives. There are places in each of us which feel too painful to visit alone, memories and experiences that have left deep scars and affected us in ways we may not even realise. I can offer you the security of knowing that you can explore your system in a safe way, without any judgement or shame, gaining a greater understanding and sense of self-compassion.
I have several years’ experience working in the mental health and well-being field, addressing such issues as childhood trauma, sexual abuse, addiction, anxiety, depression and loss. By working together, we can look past these labels, address the wounded parts of your system, and reintroduce your loving self where it’s needed.
You are stronger than you realise and deeper than you’ll ever understand. There will never be another you.
